Restorative yoga is done with the use of props; such as bolsters, straps, blocks and blankets. This practice involves placing you in a position that is as comfortable as possible for anywhere between 10 to 15 minutes with the intention to bring the body into a state of bliss. It restores the body in a more restful manner in that unlike yin- your weight is completely supported.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy.
It took me awhile to understand that a “normal” reiki session didn’t always involve guides, deceased loved ones and angels coming in with messages for the client. It also didn’t always involve a practitioner’s guides informing them of other things that needed attention, such as past life clearings. Intuitive Reiki was coined by an amazing woman I met while working at her healing center in Maui, Hawaii who was finally able to put a name on what I do.
Right now I mostly offer yoga as a therapeutic approach for healing trauma. That said, I am finding that more teaching opportunities keep finding their way to me so stay tuned. In the meantime you can book a free consultation with me to see if working together could be a good fit, or you are always welcome to stop by any of the community events offered throughout the year.
Summed up in a few words… Self Love Mentoring.
Yin yoga may use props to assist in poses not with the intention of weightlessness, but with the intent to assist you in proper form and alignment. Yin poses are generally held for 3 to 5 minutes by using the weight of gravity for a deep stretch in the tendons and fascia within the joints. More than that, it is also suggested that yin helps with energy blockages in the meridians that run to the organs within the body, which allows for a more free flow of energy and further healing to the body system.
No. In fact, sometimes not having any knowledge around yoga could be more beneficial in terms of learning. That said, the type of yoga we will typically do in a session together will be a combination of restorative and yin or a more balanced yinyasa flow, which is still very gentle, yet powerful. Each session together will vary depending on what your higher self says is optimal for your healing.
A trauma healing practitioner is exactly what it sounds like. I help to heal people from all kinds of traumatic experiences through different modalities of services. I am a Veteran, a certified 200 hour yoga teacher, Reiki and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) practitioner and am working towards a second masters degree in Clinical Psychology. Additionally, I offer sound healing and energy clearings as I feel those modalities essential to healing the split between mindy, body and spirit.
Higher consciousness clearings can involve a number of things from past lives to ancestral to simultaneous lifetimes effecting your every day existence. For instance, a medium once told me that two lifetimes ago, I took my own life. I knew I had because suicidal thoughts would creep in from time to time and the only thing that seemed to help me heal was past life clearings. Ever since I started doing this work on myself, I no longer have those thoughts. Higher consciousness clearings can help rid the body of stuck energy down to the smallest particle of energy. It helps you reach your fullest potential by clearing away all the debri from any lifetime that is still affecting you today.
